All kids fear things that go bump in the night.

That being said, visions of killer clowns, monsters under the bed, and creatures in the closet don't fade as we get older, even if we say they do. We all know the feeling of our hair standing on end when we descend into dark basements and consider the possibility of an intruder lying in wait.

With some help from his own children, Kansas City-based photographer Joshua Hoffine gives the chilling images we create in our heads new life with his take on horror photography. By exploring the idea that fear supposedly loses its intensity as we age, he makes makes it abundantly clear that confrontation with those nightmares is just as haunting in adulthood as it was when we were kids.

As for how his children felt about the project, they loved being part of Dad's work!

"It was like a giant game of dress-up for them," Hoffine explained to The Huffington Post. "They knew we were making scary pictures and loved the idea of scaring the audience as much as I did." If you want to see more of this photographer's work, be sure to pay his website a visit.
