NBA: Playoffs-Oklahoma City Thunder at Dallas Mavericks

In recent weeks, Dallas Mavericks owner and Shark Tank host Mark Cuban has been outspoken about Donald Trump — specifically, about how Trump probably doesn’t have as much money as he says he does. He took another shot at Trump on Wednesday, during an appearance on Bill Simmons’ HBO show, Any Given Wednesday. Cuban and author Malcolm Gladwell appeared together on a panel about NBA ownership, and Simmons asked Cuban whether he’d sell the Mavs if someone offered him $3 billion for them.

Cuban’s response: “What do I need $3 billion for?”

At the time, it seemed like a veiled shot at Trump’s exaggerated wealth, and after the show aired, Cuban took to Twitter to make it clear exactly who he was talking about with that comment.

It seems like a flippant remark to make, but Cuban has a point: when you have as much money as he does, you want to spend it on things that make you happy, and owning the Mavericks makes Cuban very happy. It’s what most people know him for. Getting an extra $3 billion wouldn’t dramatically change his quality of life, because he’s already rich. It would mean that he wouldn’t own an NBA team anymore, and that’s such a central part of his identity that he wouldn’t want to give it up for any dollar amount.

Plus, unlike Trump, he doesn’t actually need the money.
