After Reddit user Teredo had to get rid of his old tower speakers because of his three cats, he set out to find something that was much smaller and lighter, but would still meet his listening needs. With no luck, he stumbled upon a DIY audio technology forum and found a project that he wanted to try out for himself.

It should come as no surprise that the first step in building his very own speaker system included a quick shopping trip to…IKEA? That's right, Teredo was able to transform four salad bowls from the Swedish furniture store into an awesome pair of stereo speakers.

To make a pair of speakers, Teredo needed two bowls for each one, costing him about $11 per bowl.
