With all of the devastating floods in Louisiana right now, it would be so easy for everyone there to only focus on helping themselves — and who could blame them?

The raging waters are so dangerous that it's all some people can do just to survive, let alone think about anyone else. But like we've seen in similar situations, people often surprise us with their bravery and willingness to work together to help others — including animals — in need.

Unfortunately, the Tangi Humane Society in Hammond became flooded with four feet of water.

But luckily, the St. Tammany Humane Society in Covington took 22 of their dogs and safely transported them to their own shelter.

Denham Springs Animal Shelter was also flooded, but staff and volunteers worked tirelessly together to transport as many of their animals as they could to other shelters via boat.

In addition to saving over 3,000 people, the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries has rescued 603 animals from the floods.
